Mountain Mama: Expecting Adventure - Marin Nursing Top Review

A few weeks ago I contacted Teresa, founder and CEO of Mountain Mama:Expecting Adventure about helping me get families with young children (or pregnant mamas) outside and adventuring. I was thrilled when she said YES! and offered to let me review a couple of their shirts (and a little something for you too... ;))

I found out about Mountain Mama Expecting Adventure this past winter when I was pregnant with P and so tired of making due with sweatpants and hand-made (poorly, by yours truly) fleece belly covers.  I heard from a friend that there were maternity long underwear being made (wahoo!) and they were awesome. Mountain Papa is always an advocate of getting me outside (and staying sane...for all of us...) and so bought me a pair of those said long underwear (see here and here) for my February birthday.  They.Are.Awesome. (and so is he! :))  I wore them comfortably skiing and just being outside for the next few months.

What they say about their clothing: The world's first technical outdoor apparel for maternity. Because adventure doesn't end with pregnancy... It's just beginning!

The other thing that really impresses me about ALL their clothing is the fact that they aren't JUST for pregnancy.  They are made to work from "washboard abs" to baby belly and back again.  I love that I can keep on wearing these shirts for a long time.

Another great thing about Mountain Mama:Expecting Adventure is that they source their materials and build their clothing as close to home as they can.  In fact, nothing travels more than 20 miles in the entire process.  Local and sustainable (and super impressive!)

So, Teresa sent me a Marin Nursing top and a Clouds Rest Baselayer Crossfront (that review will come later....but I must say that I have worn it every day in the past week!)

This is the photo from their site of the Marin:
The sleeves are part of the shirt and it is unique as a nursing top because of the layers and nursing access is on the sides of the inner layer (so you don't have a line from a layer under your shirt.)  It is techy and stretchy and super comfy.

I am thrilled to be able to wear one shirt and not have to navigate through three different layers to enable me to practice discreet nursing in public.  I have been wearing it to bike (daily) and hike and just around the house.  It washes very well and retains its shape.  I also love that it looks "normal" and not like something you obviously nurse (or be pregnant) in.  The length is great for the "fourth trimester"+ and great for being active (no tugging down needed).  The only thing I don't like is the color of the sleeves because I am just not great with white.  With kids and an active outdoor life, they are bound to get dirty!  Hoping they will come out with a different sleeve color in the future.

Here are some photos we took on a beautiful fall day wearing it....(and nope, "modeling" is not my thing!)

And that carrier is a Boba 3G (see my review on that here!)

Mountain Mama: Expecting Adventure provided me with this top for review. However, as always, the opinions expressed here are completely and honestly my own. Some of the pictures are taken from their site.  Additionally, some of the links are affiliates.  See my disclosure here.

  2. Found your site from OBN and I gotta say I'm glad I'm not the only chick who gets out there even while pregnant/nursing. Now that hunting season is in full force (and so is my belly) I am in desperate need of hunting clothes that actually zip and button! Just about lost my pants pheasant hunting last weekend, so apparently going unbuttoned isn't going to fly anymore! Haha!

Thanks for the heads up on the Mountain Mama maternity clothes! I'm definitely going to check them out! Normally maternity = granny, but you look super cute in your pics! great job!

  3. We love to get outside and have adventures, but the most enticing things about your review was that it can be worn throughout pregnancy and after! It is such a pain to find all those in between clothes that fall down, need to be pulled up, or are too snug. Still loving the new blog!

  4. I had heard about Mountain Mama and wondered how well the clothes work. The last time I was pregnant it was impossible to find clothes like this (thankfully it was during the winter and I don't do many winter sports). It's great to hear about other mothers being active during and after pregnancy!

  12. Just realized the contest is only open to US residents! So I guess disregard my entry there. However, I did just order a pair of baselayer pants, and am super stoked to have them arrive :)
