*Guest Post* Interviewing Tiny Trekker

This week the guest post is a little different.  I have had the chance to get to know a great little company over the last few months that I wanted to highlight. Meet Erik, the owner and family-man behind Tiny Trekker.  He agreed to answer some questions I had about Tiny Trekker, his family and WHY they have a great thing going.  Like I mentioned on our gear post on Monday, they are having an excellent sale right now (up to 50% off!) and free shipping over $45 (sale ends 5/28).

1. Tell me a little bit about why Tiny Trekkers was started?
At the time, we were parents of two little boys and while owning and operating Mountains Plus, we soon came to realize that it was really difficult to find quality outdoor gear for kids and families.  Even as industry 'insiders' it was extremely difficult.  Hence the birth of Tinytrekker.com. We’ve used our experience in finding and accumulating the best gear available to put together a site where any parent can find the tools they need to share the outdoors with their own Tiny Trekkers.

2. I know Mountains Plus Gear is a sister company....would love to know more about that site too and how they are related
Mountains Plus was originally started back in 1995 when online retail was a bit like the wild west.  Originally we specialized in selling ski and bike equipment but our offering grew and adapted over time into what we now sell today.  We specialize in finding some of the best and hardest to find gear for outdoor enthusiasts of all types. At Mountains Plus Gear you can find the most popular lightweight tents, backpacks for any adventure, footwear for everything from trail hiking to crossfit, and more.

Tiny Trekker is an extension of Mountains Plus and our selection of great gear for your little ones.

3. If you could choose three "essential" items for getting outside with your family, what would you choose?

- A good, quality family size tent like those made by Big Agnes.  They will last decades and make sure that the whole family is warm and dry for any camping experience which is KEY to having fun in the outdoors.

- Roasting Forks for hotdogs and, more importantly, S'MORES!

- A good, multi burner propane camping stove.  Like a good tent, these will last decades or even generations.  They are easy to use, great for emergencies and nothing keeps morale and sprits higher at the campsite than hot food (and hot coffee) during any season.

4. What are your best sellers at Tiny Trekker?
Big Agnes Big House 4 and 6 Person tents are very popular but we also sell quite a few Adams Run bikes (straddle bikes for kids), training wheels, kids sleeping bag and back packs for kids like those made by Osprey.

5. Why do you think families should choose to buy from a shop like Tiny Trekker - what can you offer besides great gear?
Parents can trust that the gear we sell and recommend on TinyTrekker is 'family tested'.  My wife and I now have 3 small boys at home and when we get outside, we want to make sure we have fun and don't have situations where the gear fails us or ruins our trip.  Our boys ride the Torker bikes we sell, wear the backpacks to school and stay warm and try in the rain gear we offer.  We know it works and, therefore, that's why we recommend them to other parents.

  1. This was fun to learn more about Tiny Trekker! I can testify that they know their stuff ... I was the VERY happy winner of a recent Mtn Mama/Tiny Trekker giveaway - my 7 year old now has an AMAZING Patagonia rain jacket.

When I first got it, I was surprise how light the package was, thinking "Huh, there's not much to this jacket". We quickly discovered the fabric, design, and fit are superb (it is Patagonia, after all). So kudos to Tiny Trekkers for knowing this, and carrying such a product! I don't think I've never seen a better rain jacket for kids.

I promised Amelia I'd post some pix - it's still on my list! (It's just hot and sunny right now - lol)

Thanks again Tiny Trekker, we will definitely keep you in mind for future gear needs for all our adventures with our little ones.
