I started to look online for options and found Kowalli. I quickly found myself having a conversation with Alizah (owner and inventor of the Kowalli) and had my own to try out within a week (yea!)

I must admit I was pretty skeptical when I pulled it out of the box. My initial reaction was the thought that there was no way that this piece of fleece was going to keep myself and (most importantly) my son warm. The design was too simple (says the gal totally accustomed to the "techy gear".) The Kowalli has only one arm hole (which actually provides basically a place for Baby's head to be) and is basically a big piece of fleece that goes around Mama and Baby and cinches at the top and bottom.
However, I quickly learned I was not giving it nearly the credit it deserved. As I always do when I test products, I put it through the test as best as I could. God very conveniently provided snow, wind and plenty of wintery weather to do so.
Confession: I took P out in it with no snowsuit or coat on in 30 degree temperatures (and yes, I was checking the warmth of his extremities like every 30 seconds.)
Confession #2: I took him out again when it was 18 degrees and windy (checking every 12 seconds this time!)
The great news is that he was completely warm and happy. My core was warm, but since I only wore a sweatshirt under the Kowalli (I figured I had better wear less clothing than him if I was going to be a good Mama) my arms were chilly!
From the front - this picture taken today when wind chill was nearing zero. |
I tested mine over my Boba 3G and Action Baby Carrier, but it can be worn over any baby carrier (front, side or back hold.)
The Kowalli comes in 5 different color combinations and retails for $69.
I think they are great and recommend them to any avid baby-wearers out there (or just anyone sick of trying to keep their kids covered!)
Kowalli also sells Kozyhats and Snuggle boots that coordinate with the baby carriers. :)
Alizah has been super generous and is offering one of you the chance to win a KozyHat (winner's choice of color and size.) I did not personally have the chance to try one of these out, but I am confident that they will provide the same protection I found with the Baby Carrier cover.
A little bit about them:
- Snug, secure design locks in heat
- Ample ear coverage keeps baby warm even on the coldest days
- Made from hi-performance Polartec fleece for comfort and durability
- Recommended for 0-6 and 6-12M
Amen for keeping both mama and baby warm!
ReplyDeletelove it! what a brilliant idea!
ReplyDeleteLove the curl on top of the hat.
ReplyDeleteI think this is genius! The other night I tried zipping my daughter into my jacket (in the carrier) but I could barely get it around both of us. This is a MUCH better idea!
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I'm skeptical about the fleece being that wind resistant but the design looks very cozy!
ReplyDeleteI have to say that I trust it on your review because I would be skeptical too!! However, its a great idea since dressing them for winter makes their little bodies so bulky and then everything had to be readjusted and then adjusted again when you are inside. Sounds genius!
ReplyDeleteThis would be so great to have. I could still be out with dad and the older kids if she was bundled up in this. Plus I'm out in the barn and she could totally come with me in this. great product, hope I win it would be used.
ReplyDeleteWe love hiking with our babies year round here in Alaska with the Taiga Trekkers family hiking group (http://taigatots.blogspot.com/)! Nothing is as important as keeping everyone toasty warm. Your trip only last as long as EVERYONE is toasty. When one person get cold the fun is over. Always in search of great gear that keeps us cozy!
